East wind is frequent at the strait though it shares its predominance with west
wind. From "Sanlucar" to "Tarifa", we can find every kind
of spot : Slalom, speed and waves are mixed along the whole southern coast of
the peninsula. You just have to look for that offering the best conditions.
At this coast it lies "Tarifa". Thanks to the activity carried out
there, it has become the most important place for fun for many years. In "Tarifa"
, with a view to the African continent, windsurf is present everywhere. In fact,
many windsurfers have settled in that village in search both of wind and a certain
lifestyle.
At his area you can find the wave spot in the peninsula: "Caños
de Meca". Due to the closeness to "Tarifa" (about 50 km.),it
is a beach at which waves, forwards, backloops and every sort of spectacular
maneuvers succeed each other before us at a day with intense east wind.
"Tarifa" is the meeting point for windsurfers from the whole Europe.
There are many schools and clubs devoted to this sport and waters are also very
suitable for underwater fishing. The village conserves remains of the past such
as "Guzman the Good" Castle from the 10th century with "Santa
María" Church inside. Close to the town hall, there is a viewpoint
from which you can see Tarifa Port, Gibraltar Strait and Moroccan Coast.
