THE THIRTY-THIRD INTERNATIONAL NAUTICAL WEEK
(August)
THE TENTH JUAN DE LA COSA REGATTA
(August)
The bay of Cadiz offers excellent conditions for sailing. In El Puerto de Santa
María, it is held in Summer two of the most prestigious competitions:
1.- THE THIRTY-THIRD NAUTICAL WEEK in August brought together
high level sailing ships. This heat counts towards the championship of Spain
I.M.S.
2.- It is also held THE TENTH JUAN DE LA COSA REGATTA in August.
This competition began to be played so as to pay two tributes:
The commemoration of the fifth centenary of the first world map by Juan de
la Cosa in El Puerto de Santa María in 1500 and the commemoration of
sailors. It is held the regatta under a type of competition similar to a sort
of traditional fishing practiced in this area, Bou. Thanks to common effort
at this fishing, two ships collaborate with each other in order to obtain the
products of the sea.
